Glacier Bay is within reach of Juneau!

Your day starts off at the Juneau International Airport, where you'll enjoy a late afternoon scenic flight to Gustavus, the gateway to Glacier Bay. You'll be greeted by a representative from the Glacier Bay Lodge that will take you to the hotel, just in time for dinner (not included).

The next morning, you'll spend the day on the waters of Glacier Bay and see magnificent tidewater glaciers, ancient snow-capped mountains, whales, stellar sea lions, rare birds such as puffins, coastal bears, seals, eagles, and so much more.

Aboard our comfortable, high-speed catamaran, you'll travel through dramatically different ecosystems - moving from the fully developed rainforest that surrounds Glacier Bay Lodge to the lichen-encrusted rocks that exist on the edges of the massive tidewater glaciers of the park.

Midway through the day, the catamaran arrives at the faces of the Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers, two towering masses of ice and snow rising 245 feet above the ocean and stretching another 100 feet beneath the water. The ice that calves from the face of the two glaciers is an average of 200 years old - so in a way, watching the ice break off of the glaciers is like watching the passage of time. This great Alaska vacation will leave you speechless.

Transfers back to Gustavus for your flight back to Juneau are included.

Weather and Insurance Advisory

We've always believed in honesty and direct communication. So this may be the most honest disclaimer you have read from a Tour Operator :)

The weather patterns of Southeast Alaska are extreme. One day it may be clear with not a single cloud in the sky, and the next day it may rain sideways. Travel along Lynn Canal & the Inside Passage remains a challenge at times, just as it was for the original Gold Rush prospectors in the late 1890s. Weather can change and affect operations of ferries and flights; and the winds in Icy Strait/Gustavus can be challenging. While most of the year, weather is acceptable - cloudy, rain, and of course sun; there are days when planes can't fly, or the ferry doesn't run. This could mean you have a risk of getting stuck in Gustavus. We trust the operations of the vendors we use to determine if its safe to travel or not, however there is always a risk outside of our control and yours, that your short trip in Gustavus could become another overnight. Therefore, we do suggest that you bring extra clothes and medications should Alaska Air not be able to operate the flight (cancellations are VERY rare, however). AYT also offers an insurance option, for $65 per person, that will cover the cost of your hotel in Gustavus if you get stuck due to weather or mechanical reasons, and get you rebooked on transportation back to Juneau the next day. This MUST be selected at time of booking or before final confirmation. We do not offer this itinerary on days that certain ferries or boats operate - we know from experience which ones are reliable and those that are not. 99% of all travelers to and from Gustavus DO travel according to plan, however, we feel its important to disclose that Gustavus and Icy Strait do see a varying degree of weather, even in the summer, that could affect operations by flight. We are not responsible for any expenses or liability incurred for non-completion of travel back to Juneau. Save My Butt Insurance does not cover cost of missed excursions, lost wages/work, missed flights, or cruise ships.
